I am Walter Burks. I was born and grew up in Gastonia, NC. It is a great town that is only about 20 minutes from Charlotte, NC. I go to school at East Carolina University, which is were I live during the school year. It is located in Greenville, NC. I have been playing piano for almost 15 years now and singing for about 6 years. Playing piano and singing is really what my passion is. I created this site originally to help promote the CD my parents helped me make. Now I am using it to not only promote the CD but to do a weekly blog. Every week I record and post up one or more new songs. I hope you enjoy the site, come back again! If you would like to turn off the music to hear the other songs on the blog, the music player is located at the bottom of the page.
My brother Bobby loves Indiana Jones and Legos, so Heather and I decided to help him make a stop motion lego video. We had a ton of fun. I moved around the legos and heather took all the pictures. The voices were done by Bobby, Heather, Matt Hines, my sister Victoria, and me! Hope you like this random video, haha!
This weeks song is one that I recorded for Heather that I am now posting up. It is called “Then” by Brad Paisley. Heather and I will have been dating for 5 years on July 19th, tomorrow, so I took her out for a date last night and recorded this song for her. It was really fun and we had an awesome time! She had no idea where we were going so that made it even better. We started off last night by going to the place where I first met her in 2001, Parkwood Baptist Church, and then we went to a bunch of other places that were important to us through out the years. In the video below you can hear the song and see some of the places we went to.
Thanks Heather for a great 5 years, hope to have many more!
July 19, 2009 - 1:11 amLauren Hopper - Oh my gracious Walter, this was beautiful. You guys have to be two of the most amazing people I've ever met. Best wishes!
July 19, 2009 - 2:27 amJoy - Wow that is so special! I love you both!
July 28, 2009 - 12:47 amTom Ravan - Walter,
I'm a pastor in Ahoskie, about an hour north of ECU. I was at Parkwood for about 4 years before God called me into the ministry. I got to know your parents and just fell in love with them. Of course, you were too young then to remember me. Connie and I got married in Oct. of '97, I surrendered to the call to ministry in Jan of '98, and we moved to SEBTS in April. I've now been in Ahoskie at Creech Memorial Baptist since graduating with my MDiv in 2001.
I've got an odd, and rather last-minute request for you: we are having a youth lock-in a week from this Friday (Aug 7). I was planning on just leading some music from CD's, but then I got a crazy idea... Are you going to be back up this way by then? Even if so, would you be crazy enough to consider coming this way and leading a group of 25-200 (I don't really know what to expect) :) in worship, and some energetic songs? Yeah, I know, wild and out of the blue. I can feed you and give you some gas $ (something every college student needs). You can bring a crowd with you if you like!
What do you think? Oh yeah, ask your parents about Tom and Connie, we are real and they did attend our wedding. I even think they liked us. :)

November 23, 2009 - 4:44 pmJoy - OK, so after you told me this past weekend that you sang the song to Heather, I listened to it again! Beautiful, I guess the first time I was just looking at all the sweet photos and thought you were Brad singing the song!
This week I am on vacation at the beach but I recorded a song with my sister Kelsey before I left to post up while I was down here. It is funny that the song that we recorded is called Break Like A Wave and we happen to be at the beach when I post it. I did not even plan that when we did it, haha. I am singing the main part of it and the back up vocals and playing piano. Kelsey is playing guitar. This song is by Carl Cartee, http://carlcartee.com/, it is one of my favorite songs that he does.
Also…There is a new MUSIC PAGE up on the main bar of the website, near the top. It has all the songs that I have posted up on my blogs, that way if someone wants to listen to a particular one they do not have to scroll through all the different days just to find that one song.
Hope you like it!
